My name is name is Honi Borden, (short for Ommehoni Motarefi-Borden) and I am the owner/founder of Holeco® Wellness Medi Spa and holeco® life "rooted beauty" products. Welcome to my site and thank you for your time in learning about my story.
I have been in the beauty industry for over 18 years. After graduating from George Washington University with bachelors in psychology, I pursued masters degree in clinical therapy and counseling from Johns Hopkins University, then onto post advanced studies in existential therapy and counseling where I was working with refugee population as a clinical therapist providing individual and group counseling. In 2001, after 9/11, the boarders got closed and the refugee program that I was working with got shot down. After loosing my job, I decided to take steps towards following my dream of owning a complete holistic wellness center and begun with opening Honi's Electrolysis in December 2001. Being a mom and having a flexible part time position that was my own was wonderful and yet I saw the limitations of the electrology practice. To expand my knowledge further and provide greater results for my clients, in 2005, I received board certified laser certificate from Rocky Mountain Laser College and in the summer of 2006, I took the next step and opened my own medi spa called Derma Hair Care, in Falls Church, VA. This new Mindful Medi Spa was founded with my desire to blend modern beauty technology with authentic personal care, inner beauty and compassion. This was also the beginning of me stepping into the world of reiki, aromatherpy and eventually reconnective healing.
As a woman business owner, busy mom of 2 boys and a wife, I was inspired by my personal experiences to make changes that would improve my health and well being along with the health and well being of my family and clients and the well being of the planet as a whole. After dealing with my son's hormonal imbalance and endocrine disruption as an infant then later on with my husband and younger son's highly sensitive skin and dermatitis, I turned the negative feelings and frustrations I felt into examining the possibility that these experiences were perhaps part of my awakening and I am supposed to learn from these life lessons and do something very positive about them. I began to examine more closely the connection between their health issues and every day personal care & home products we were using.
I started an extensive research into what was in the products and learned that most body and skin care products contained chemical preservatives and ingredients that could caused harmful side effects to our health. I felt horrified and at the same time empowered by this new knowledge that I had received the right answer regarding all the challenges that I had been facing with my precious family. Thus, turning the frustration and anger into action, I switched all of the personal care and household products in my home to all chemical free, natural and eco-friendly options (after tons of research regarding what options existed). Those personal experiences turned my newly opened medi spa to a completely non-toxic and green minded center & planted the seed for my new natural body care, makeup line as well as superfoods, holeco® life.
I became highly aware of the interconnectedness between our health and the health of the planet and become eco-conscious in all aspects of her life. Everything was switched to chemical free and made from all natural and organic ingredients. From skin care, hair care, nail care to all bedding, ropes, towels, spa gowns used in treatment rooms. I used only green cleaning supplies and switched over to green powered web hosting, renewable energy, FSC certified printing, green merchant telling, green materials. Before I knew it, my entire spa had become Green!
In March 2007, after a thorough and extensive screening process that took weeks, my medi spa was honored to become the very first Green Wellness Center and Medi Spa in the US recognized by Green America as a socially responsiblegreen company. With this recognition, the spa found its way to into the National Green Pages Directory. Soon after, the spa was recognized with a Gold Certification from GenGreen Business as an eco-friendly medi spa. In the August of 2008, I changed Derma Hair Care to Holeco® Wellness Medi Spa to capture more authentically the vision to create a nourishing, holistic based practice that offered comprehensive, eco-conscious medi spa services, detox services and healing modalities such as reiki, reflexology and chakra balancing. The word Holeco® became a made up word with combining of the words holistic and eco-friendly. Soon after, I filed US patent trademark for HOLECO.
In a short period of time, I saw that my center served more than just medical aesthetic treatments and the need to becoming more holistic was necessary for integration and transformation. The green inititives had given me this inspiration and I began studying holistic energy healing and reiki under Suchinta Abhayaranta, founder of Creative Holistic Integration and soon integrated these new healing modalities into my work with clients. Now an advanced third level reiki practitioner, I incorporates this knowledge of more traditional energy work with modern and technical medical spa skills. My goal is to nurture and encourage each client to look and feel beautiful and to be rooted in a beauty that comes from within. I believe when clients themselves hold the key to their own healing and I bring that acknowledgement to them via the modalities of inner beauty.
Over the years, I has sought to align my self and my business with those who share a holistic and eco-conscious understanding of health and wellness. In the Fall of 2009, we moved Holeco® from Falls Church, VA to a more green, metro accessible location in the Friendship Heights neighborhood in Washington, DC in the space next door to the National Integrated Health Associates offices which offers a complete integrated holistic health care and biological dental services. This move was essential to our client's wellness so they would have access to variety of holistic treatments.
In 2008, I begun working on my own product line and in early 2010, I finally launched the holeco® life product line of personal "rooted beauty" items which include skin lotion, body oils, soaps, eco-mineral sunscreen and foundation, chocolate, candles and aromatherapy ois all natural and chemical free make up to empower individuals to begin with loving themselves first and extend that love to the outside (environment) and help make a difference in the life of those in need. The line includes superfoods rich in anti-oxidants such as green teas and even has a line of seven versions of raw, vegan chakra inspired chocolates. The products are designed with a holistic vision to help improve the quality of life for the person that purchases the products and for others in need around the world. A portion of all proceeds supports the International Lifeline Fund's projects of clean water and fuel efficient stoves that helps improve the quality of life of women and families in developing countries in Africa. I have been heavily involved with the formulations of most of my products.
I believe that when we connect with a deeper level of our consciousness, we see truth and from that place the light shines upon our heart that we get a glimpse of our highest potential in life. We can recognize our personal health and well being is also connected to the health and well being of the planet as a whole. Through the holeco® life product line, I am guided deep within to empower, educate, and invite others to live a more compassionate life towards self, other people and the planet. Through this teaching, I hope to inspire all individuals to live a fully conscious mindful life that is deep rooted within each of us as its source is love and light.
